Title: ASL Mentor
Part-Time
Job Summary:
The ASL Mentor will be responsible for assisting students in improving their understanding of American Sign Language (ASL). The ASL Mentor will provide guidance, support, and feedback to students as they work to improve their ASL skills. The ASL Mentor will work closely with students, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, and developing strategies to help them improve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet with students regularly to review their progress and provide feedback
- Assist students in developing ASL vocabulary, grammar, and syntax
- Work with students to develop their receptive and expressive ASL skills
- Provide guidance and support to students as they practice ASL conversation and storytelling
- Develop and implement strategies for improving student engagement and motivation
- Collaborate with other mentors and faculty members to ensure that the ASL program is meeting the needs of students
- Attend training sessions and workshops to stay up-to-date on the latest ASL teaching strategies and technologies
- Participate in program assessment and evaluation activities as required
Qualifications:
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Strong knowledge of ASL vocabulary, grammar, and syntax
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in ASL, education, or related field preferred
- Experience working with students in a teaching or mentoring capacity
