Title: ASL Practice Group Facilitator (PST)

About the role
ASL Spring is looking for a Practice Group Facilitator to host our biweekly online ASL practice groups for students on the West Coast. These sessions are where students move from studying ASL to actually using it. These sessions provide students access to a low-pressure space to sign, make mistakes, and build confidence with a fluent signer guiding the conversation.
You'll run each session on Zoom with registered ASL Spring students, adapting the pace, vocabulary, and topics to the level of the group in front of you. Sessions run one to two hours and are scheduled at times that work for Pacific-time students.
What you'll do
Host biweekly ASL practice sessions on Zoom for registered ASL Spring students
Lead conversation and activities appropriate to the level of each group, from beginner through advanced
Keep sessions welcoming and participatory, drawing in quieter students and managing the flow of a group discussion in a video setting
Introduce vocabulary, prompts, and topics that stretch students without overwhelming them
Set session times that work for students in the Pacific time zone
Share observations with the ASL Spring team about how groups are progressing and what students are struggling with
What we're looking for
Fluency in American Sign Language and written English
Experience teaching, tutoring, facilitating, or otherwise leading groups in ASL
Comfort running a session over Zoom, including screen sharing and managing participants
Reliable high-speed internet, a webcam, and a well-lit space with a clean background suitable for signing on video
Based in the Pacific time zone with availability during hours that suit West Coast students
Patience and warmth with learners at every level
Nice to have
Advanced ASLPI or SLPI results, or comparable credentials demonstrating ASL proficiency
Connection to and knowledge of Deaf culture and community
Prior experience with online or hybrid language instruction
Familiarity with ASL curriculum design or leveled instruction
Experience working with adult learners
Deaf and hard of hearing applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
Compensation and hours
This is a part-time contract position paying $18–$25 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Sessions are held biweekly and run one to two hours each.
Rates are adjusted where local minimum wage requirements are higher.
